2019-2020 AEF Mini-Grant Recipients List

Arcadia Educational Foundation making teachers’ dreams come true! For over 21 years, AEF has supported the teachers and staff of the Arcadia Unified School District through our signature Mini-Grant Program. We are pleased to announce that for the 2019 – 2020 school year, 30 grants totaling over $28,000 have been awarded!

AEF’s mini-grant program is designed to help our teachers enrich their curriculum, enhance student learning, and provide innovation and/or collaboration in learning. Two large grants were awarded this year, one to Highland Oaks for their “Soaring to New Heights with Project STEM Lab”. Highland Oaks’ new STEM Lab will be used by the whole school, students in TK through 5th grade. Lead applicants William Harrison and Janae Williams state that the STEM Lab will be a hands-on interactive space where teachers can introduce new opportunities for growth in various STEM skills. It will emphasize the learning process rather than just an outcome. We can’t wait to see Highland Oaks’ new lab in action.

The other large grant went to Hugo Reid for their “Reading for All!” Lead applicants, Sandra Macintosh and Kristine Iwashita-Morris applied for a site license for Accelerated Reader which they hope will instill a lifelong love of reading and help develop self-discipline for their students. They also write that the Accelerated Reader Program provides teachers a consistent and immediate gauge of students’ reading comprehension because it allows students to work at their pace and level, supported by reports that highlight those who need additional help and those who need more of a challenge. Happy Reading to the Hugo Reid students!

All of this would not be possible without the support of our donors. Thank You to our donors for recognizing the importance of supporting our teachers and staff as they strive to engage their students to Imagine...Inquire…Inspire!

Stay tuned… a full list of awarded applications along with our award announcement photos will soon be posted on our website. Bravo, we congratulate all this year’s award recipients!
