John Shun-Ming Chang - Vice President

John embarked on his entrepreneurial journey three years after graduating from UC Berkeley in the early 90s, where he majored in Computer Science and Statistics. His initial exposure to the professional world included an internship at the Berkeley Lawrence Space Science Laboratory, directly affiliated with the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, along with other labs within the university. Seeking further education, John pursued an Information Science MBA degree at Claremont Graduate School - Peter Drucker MBA, completing his studies in 1999.

In 1996, John initiated his first personal business venture focusing on entertainment packaging for the media industry. He collaborated with CD/DVD factory owners based in China and Taiwan, gaining recognition for innovation, competitive pricing, and high-quality new media packaging. The venture achieved success, attracting Fortune 500 clients such as Belkin, Costco, Disney, Idealab, JVC, Maxwell, Sony, Sonopress, Technicolor, Warner Brothers, and Uline. This triumph paved the way for John's expansion into various business opportunities and real estate investments.

Currently serving on the boards of several companies and organizations, including iElite Innovation Society (IEIS), International Science Engineering Fair (ISEF), International Leadership Foundation (ILF), San Marino Rotary Club – Charity Foundation (SMRCF), and WinEvaluator, John is also the Co-Founder of Academy Wines & Spirits of North America. This pioneering institution focuses on a unique learning experience through education and tastings in multiple languages, including Mandarin Chinese, and has been integrated into EMBA programs of affiliated Chinese companies.

John envisions establishing a charity education pathway from K-12 through colleges to the professional level. This initiative aims to support students and their families through charity/charitour, intern/interntour, and volunteer/voluntour programs. Rooted in raising their two sons, John and his wife actively participate in their children's education and support their schools.

John's wife holds a position on the board of trustees at a private school in the Pasadena area, bringing her extensive experience as CFA/PTA President and a longtime volunteer in the community. Their sons, Kristofer and Anthony, study in the Arcadia area, with Kristofer having graduated from Flintridge Preparatory School and currently pursuing studies at Harvey Mudd on a merit scholarship. Anthony, the younger son, attends Flintridge Preparatory School as a high school student, excelling in academics, leadership, and sports.

Having navigated the high school application process themselves, the couple identified a need among Asian parents in the community who face challenges in understanding and preparing their children's applications. Cultural differences and language barriers contribute to this gap, prompting the couple's goal to bridge it by educating parents and assisting their children in finding the best schools, offering leadership training, and enhancing their understanding of the nine quotients, with a special emphasis on science through STREAMLaunchpad.
